Raju Parulekar is a writer, journalist, poet, researcher and political analyst of national and international issues since more than twenty five years. Parulekar’s analytical and research-based writings have been published in several national as well as international journals and periodicals. He has been active in the audio-visual media for the past 20 years as an anchor and researcher.
Raju Parulekar was born in a small village Vengurla which is prominently a part of Konkan Maharashtra. A scenic village where the villagers did farming for a living. He comes from a modest family where his father was a government officer and mother a house-wife. Graduating in commerce and pursuing ICWA, Raju’s heart was set somewhere else. Destiny had something huge planned for him. His quest for knowledge gained him a fellowship with Oxfam at the age of 23. He began his research work for sugarcane cutters as an Oxfam fellow. It enabled him to travel through remote villages. He stayed in Gandhi ashram, Pavna Ashram, gained knowledge about various movements and saw them up close.
He befriended stalwarts like Prakash Amte, Abhay Bang, Thakurdas Bang. Raju Parulekar finds himself fortunate to have met and learned from them. Later on he met Vijay Tendulkar and the two struck an inseparable bond which enriched and influenced his writing journey and shaped his personality. The first article he wrote was ‘Towards Dark Ages’ published in Daily observer by senior journalist Kumar Ketkar.
Raju Parulekar was a man wearing many hats at a very young age. Besides reading and writing he started working as an RJ at a radio channel in English and Marathi. Mr. Anup Sethi who was the producer of a show on Hindi language radio show, taught him the right dialect and nuances of spoken Hindi language. Later, Raju Parulekar scripted shows for television, produced by Rakesh Saarang; Arambh, Samaantar and you can say that shows scripted by him initiated the beginning of channels back then in 2000-2001. Saam channel began with a show written by Raju titled, ‘Maharashtra Konacha’ where stalwarts in politics were interviewed. Raju Parulekar even wrote the multi-starrer daily soap, ‘Khel’ for Sony TV. He went on to write scripts with Vijay Tendulkar and a talk show for Priya Tendulkar which was aired on a popular television channel. ETV Marathi’s show ‘Sanvaad’ made him a popular television host enabling his reach in each household of Maharashtra. People began identifying him with ‘Sanvaad’.
Parulekar has been dynamic in the varying media for more than 25 years as a writer and analyst. He was analyst for Priya Tendulkar talk show and another show Jimmedar Kaun. He composed screenplays with Vijay Tendulkar. He additionally wrote for numerous shows on television and films. He was editor-in-chief of art, culture and fashion magazine called Platinum. His sensitive side can be seen in his poems which is published in a book titled, ‘Manjiri’, in early 2010.
He has, so far, anchored shows on social, literary, cultural and political issues and one of them, Samvad, ran effectively for a long time with more than 3,500 episodes for five years.
Recently, he has interviewed personalities from political and cultural fields for his show on Insider channel. Through various social media platforms, Parulekar voices his opinions on national and international issues that concern politics, art and culture.
Parulekar has been dynamic as an author, expert and writer and has written columns for Maharashtra Times, Loksatta newspaper and magazine and many periodicals. He has penned TV serials, screenplays and dialogues for films. Raju Parulekar’s books cover social and political issues and bring forth harsh truth about Indian political and social system.
Since 2016, he has been actively speaking and analysing the rapidly shifting cultural and political scenario in India, via Marathi, Hindi as well as English podcasts on YouTube and in independent news media.
In 2005, Parulekar was bestowed with the RAPA Award for Excellence by the Radio and Television Advertising Practitioners’ Association of India for the show ‘Sanvaad’, telecast on ETV Marathi.
He has likewise won a honour from the Gandhi Peace Foundation for his research based political writings.
In 2008, Raju Parulekar was awarded Maharashtra Times Award for best interviewer and writer.
He won Maharashtra State Govt Award for his book very first book ‘Ideas are Dangerous’. The award was the Bhai Madhavrao Bagal Sanman.
In recent times, he has received the Ulugulan Puraskar, the Bhai Vaidya Yuva Puraskar, the voice of democracy award and the OP Shah Chhaya Foundation award which was presented to him by Javed Akhtar.
